I am buying a house and the furnace is old. I have heard new furnaces cost a fortune since they need all new exhaust tubing. Can one get an old refurbished furnace? If you can, how much do they usually go for (preferably in Canadian currency) ? Thanks a bunch!

with the continuing rise in natural gas prices, I am seriously considering ripping out my gas furnace which is about 15 years old and not a high efficiency furnace, and replacing it with an electric unit. I am in a 92 model year mobile home. My utility bill for gas currently runs around 150 month in winter JUST for the gas, not including electric. I'm in Michigan, so it gets pretty cold here.

According to the National Fuel Gas Code, sediment traps are required on gas furnaces. It was brought to my attention this morning that my furnace does not have one. I need to know what year this was deemed mandatory so I can find out if the manufacturer of my mobile home is responsible for the cost of fixing this.

Or what are the benefits/costs of gas furnaces vs. heat pumps to heat an average American home?
